The American Diabetes Association (ADA) claims that diabetes is now the “fifth-deadliest disease in the United States.”
Note these deadly ADA statistics:
- Diabetes related deaths increased 45% since 1987
- Diabetes is “generally underreported on death certificates, because of multiple illnesses affecting diabetics
- Heart Disease, strokes, high blood pressure, blindness, kidney disease and nervous system damage are among the many ancillary illnesses precipitated by diabetes
- At present trends, 1 in 3 Americans born in 2000 will develop diabetes
- So how do you know if you’re suffering from life-threatening or Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) diabetes?
Six symptoms have been associated with DKA, including:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Sweet-smelling, fruity acetone breath
- Breathing difficulty
- Rapid pulse rate
- Abdominal pain (most often found in diabetic children)
If you suffer one or more of these symptoms, you should seek immediate, emergency treatment.
