Every day, thousands of people across the United States are getting the same diagnosis – “Pre-diabetes” or “Type 2 diabetes”. It’s a common prognosis, rapidly becoming the number 1 health care problem among what was once called “The Pepsi Generation”. Like most, you’re scared.
You say ‘Why me?’ And you start to imagine the worse possible outcomes of your condition – blindness, limb loss, cancer, needle-sharp body pain, sexual dysfunction. After a couple of days, you start to settle down. Maybe it’s not so bad, you think to yourself. And you’ve already begun to forget some of the things that #$&*@$ doctor told you in his office.
Many people forget about blood sugar and how to control it. Most focus on three key words of advice from their doctors: diet, exercise and weight loss. Ok. Now what do you do?
Some people resign themselves to their condition, blaming it on genetics. Others seek out answers.
Before you join an expensive gym (that you’ll probably never see more than 4 or 5 times), buy expensive exercise equipment (that ends up in the closet), or enter a diet program featuring the latest cardboard box-tasting meal programs, I’ve found an alternative.
A number of years ago, Dr. Jon Leonard, along with Nathan Pritikin (known for the Pritikin Diet), wrote a best-selling series of 3 books, the most notable, The First One Hundred Years, which turned out to be a New York Times best-seller. The books have diet programs, based on real food recipes. They outline exercise programs that don’t require costly memberships or purchases. And they provide a lot of advice that will not only help you lose weight, but keep it off.
Unfortunately, Dr. Leonard retired from the book publishing industry. But I’ve come across a source that makes all three books – one on overall healthy practices, one on exercising and another that contains weight-losing recipes, all available, free of charge.
You can go to the Books section on this site that features immediately downloadable books from Dr. Jon Leonard.
There’s no hitch. Nothing required for you to buy. And you can download them right away and start reading them within minutes. Again, they’re free. And if after reading them you still feel the need to join your local heath club and subscribe to costly cardboard meal programs, you at least will have a better understanding of some less expensive alternatives.
