What is a Diabetic Diet?
Diabetic diets are developed to help you reach your ideal body weight, maintain healthy blood sugar and reduce your risk of heart disease (Type 2 diabetics have a higher risk of developing heart related diseases).
Losing 1-2 pounds per week should be the healthy pace you set. It can be achieved by:
- Eating a combination of 50-60% from carbohydrates, 12-20% from protein and about 30% from fat
- Eating multiple, mini-meals, 5-6 times a day
- Eating foods that are high in fiber, including fruits and vegetables, whole grain bread and cereals, legumes
One of the biggest diet-killers is boredom. People lose interest in eating the same old rice cakes, carrot and celery sticks. We can help in two ways.
