Good Food Choices

The US Department of Agriculture publishes the Food Pyramid that makes it easier to make good food choices.

The Food Pyramid focuses on the following foods and beverages:

  • Bright colored fruits and vegetables, especially spinach, carrots, broccoli and green beans
  • Whole grain bread and cereals
  • Dried beans and lentils
  • Lean meats (turkey, skinless chicken)
  • Drink eight 8-ounces of water a day
  • Substitute unsaturated fats (olive oil, canola oil) for saturated, trans fats
  • Avoid sugar and high fructose corn syrup sweetened products, including soda, ice cream, cookies and candy
