5 Ways to Start Eating Healthy
Getting started on a healthy eating regimen should be eased into.
Diving into a full-blown diet change with both feet often results in discouragement and diet failure.
Here are five tips that lead to a gradual change in your eating habits:
- Switch to smaller portions of everything.
Don’t cut out, cut down on sweets, candy and overall meal portions.
- Switch from fatty marbleized meats and whole dairy products to leaner versions.
Eat turkey and chicken, not beef or ribs. Low fat or fat-free dairy products for whole milk and cheeses.
- Drink Lots of Water.
Eight 8-ounce glasses of water are needed per day to stay hydrated, whether you’re dieting or not. Water also helps to suppress your appetite.
- Start substituting unhealthy snacks
Substitute cookies, cake and ice cream with healthy fruit and vegetable snacks.
- Read the Nutrition Facts label on foods you buy.
Make sure that ‘low fat’ product you buy is also ‘low calorie’. Keep away from fatty, high sodium products.
