There are four measures for determining whether you are overweight or obese.
They are Body Mass Index (BMI), Waist Circumference, Anthropometry and Biomedical Impedence Analysis (BIA).
The most common weight measurement test is Body Mass Index. The BMI compares your height and weight, on a scaling for men and women.
Generally, a BMI rating of 25-29.9 is classified as 'overweight'. A BMI of 30+ represents an 'obese' condition.
Another measurement of weight classification is Waist Circumference Testing. This method measures the circumference of your waist, at navel level.
Generally, men with waist circumferences of over 37" are considered overweight.
Anthropometry evaluated weight by measuring fold thickness in the triceps, shoulder blade and hip areas.
Bioelectrical Impedence Analysis (BIA) sent a mild electrical current through your body and measure body water levels, an indication of fat vs. muscle leanness.
Using one or more of these measurements will indicate your degree of excess weight.
